January 2nd, 2023

Glenyarra welcomes all our new families and old friends who have returned!

Our Newborns are 1 week old today and are doing beautifully.  Puppies were born with smaller birth weights than Lola's puppies ( born 4 days earlier than Bonnie's) as Lola carried 6 puppies and Bonnie 11 pups. Weight range at birth for Bonnie's babies was 396 gms to 483 gms and after 7 days  weight range is 785gms to 878 gms. Puppies are weighed daily and I'm very happy at this stage that there are no apparent health issues that would concern me... so all in all a wonderful start. Bonnie has settled into motherhood like she has done it all before.  It has been lovely for us and Bonnie, to see Bonnie's family visit us a couple of times to see their beautiful girl, who is now a Mum!

Puppies cannot see or hear at this stage of development but their strong sense of smell alerts them that Bonnie is in the whelping box and as many of you have seen on a facetime or viber call they drag their fat little bodies towards her for some of that magic Mother's milk!  Hopefully, by the next post in a week they will have their eyes opened.

All puppies from Bonnie's litter have new families...very special people from the current waiting list. It has been a difficult day to have to ring many of you who missed a puppy offer this time. Hopefully,  we will have good news for you over the coming months

Apologies for the rather late post tonight... I just wanted an excuse for my hubbie to have to cook tea!

Please enjoy this week's photos which show the massive changes that happened in just one week...if you would like another video call, just send me a text... I feel that I have some order happening here and would love to chat with and see you all again.

January 9th, 2023

Our little ones are 2 weeks old today. Their eyes are staring to open and their ears are definitely working as they made little howling noises as my husband did some drilling another room in the house! They have had an amazing growth spurt in the last couple of days all putting on about 100gms per day...as Bonnie's milk changes and becomes stronger and more nourishing. Weight  range this week ranges from 1.16  kilos to 1.34 kilos . Bonnie feeds every 2 and a half hours roughly and spends the rest of the time out of the whelping box after she has cleaned her pups. The pups feed with 2 let downs each feed and sleep until she gets in for the next feed. Puppies have had another nail trim and file and have had their first worming tablet. I do recommend that you purchase some puppy nail scissors and am happy to advise you on our Open Day how to use them. The worming tablet that I use is called Millbemax and also has some heartworm cover until you see your vet and get his/her recommendation. They can be purchased online. Your pup should be over 5 kilos when they go home ...to help you with your purchase.

Our little ones are becoming vocal with all sorts of squeaks, growls and funny sounding barks, as they find their voices.

Apologies again for the late post but our trusted vet turned up at teatime to microchip, vaccinate and health check Mango's babies so I am running a coupe of hours behind time.

I do hope everyone received their videos today...please let me know if yours did not arrive or was not clear. We may need to send future videos through Viber. Please ring if you have any questions...Appointments for the Open Day will not be made atm...but in the near future... after Mango's Open Weekend, this weekend.

January 16th, 2023

Bonnie's puppies are three weeks old today. They have  continued to show good weight gains with the range this week from 1.58 kilos to 1.73 kilos. Puppies' eyes are open and they react when the washing machine or cooling fan are turned on. They have become quite mobile and are certainly vocal... as you heard in this morning's video! Bonnie spends longer periods of time away from her pups and only gets in to check on them or cleanup or to feed. Puppies still sleep most of the time when not feeding... their active and vocal moments are when Bonnie is near... always looking for a drink!

Bonnie has been amazing,  she is a very chilled girl and is very attentive to her little ones. She has really enjoyed her early morning plays with Mango and Lola and loves her daily meaty bone. It was lovely to spend time with Bonnie's family last Sunday... she is definitely very loved.

Today I sent out a link to to a free dog training webinar... I have not watched it as yet but would be very interessted in your thoughts. It is now time to start googling... there are many ideas and methods out there for you to think about when considering how to socialise and train your pup... and not one way is right. You must decide as a family what the desired  outcomes are for your family and your little Golden. Perhaps a family discussion will expose what each member hopes their new puppy will be to them and how it should fit into the family routine. From there you can set about forming the steps to achieve those goals. Researching the web will help you to select a method that will work the best for you. I am always available for an opinion, if you wish to discuss an approach

This week I have posted single photos of each pup so you can compare the photos in 2 weeks time and see just how much they have changed... you will be stunned!

January 24rd, 2023

Finally you say... well I'm saying it too!  Thankyou again for your understanding of the late post and my expertise of sending videos. After a mixed emotional day of saying goodbye to Mango's babies and being excited for the families we settled down to remove the woodchips sweeping and vaccuuming the puppy house ...then mopping with an anti parvo wash. Then happily Bonnie's puppies were able to move out to their new home for the next 4 weeks. They were so ready for more space and we will gradually open it up over the next few days as they gain their confidence, and are up to exploring their new digs.

Bonnie's pups were 4 weeks old yesterday and had their second worming tablet ( Millbemax) , had their nails trimmed again and moved from the kitchen scales to the bucket and luggage carrier for the weigh in. All puppies were over 2 kilos with the rangs being 2.08 kilos to  2.15 kilos...so not much separating them at this stage. As you saw in one of my better videos they have had a couple of feeds of the Royal Canin soaked kibble and they loved it!

Now that they are outside we will feed 2 meals per day for a few days and them move to 3 per day. Bonnie is now standing to feed, so is starting to wean them. The puppies' teeth are through so are very capable of eating their food themselves. Bonnie now only goes in to feed her babies when she is feeling full and then spends time inside with us or outside playing with Lola who we are also weaning. Both girls will be here for their Open Weekends but will go home to their wonderful families after that. When you take your pup home they will be totally independant and settled on their own food. A diet sheet will be emailed after the Open Day and there will also be another printed copy in your infomation folder on Pick up Day...it contains exact quantities of kibble, veggies, cooked mince/or shredded chicken and feeding times so please don't worry in the meantime...it's all a process and we will walk you through it step by step.

My wonderful vet is booked to visit us on for February 1st, so he will have seen your puppy for a health check , and he will have microchipped all pups before you visit. I do hope that you enjoyed the photos yesterday and promise to do a better job of the videos!

January 30th, 2023

Our little ones are 5 weeks old today. A lot of changes this week, with the move outside to the puppy house last Tuesday. After Mango's puppies went off to their new homes we changed the woodchips, swept, vaccumed and washed down the whole area with a parvo disinfectant. Then washed and dried all the toys. As you can see from the photos they are loving the space and are growing in energy and confidence everyday. They run, jump and tumble with each other, play with the toys and tunnel . Some of the pups love to get the metal kitchen utensils singing...they are very musical!

The pups are now on 3 meals a day and have moved to two donut bowls for feeding... some puppies are very pushy with their food while others eat slowly and have a look around, so moving to two bowls allows the slower eaters not to get pushed out. Puppies' weight range is 2.65 kilos to 3.07 kilos ...they certainly put on more weight now they are on solids. Bonnie had her last feed Sunday  and her family are counting down to having her home next Sunday after our visiting day.

I have had a great question from a family today about Puppy School... I would prefer that you don't attend until your pup has full coverage from completing all three injections...I understand that it is great for their socialisation... golden retrievers are naturally sociable, boys and girls! There are safe ways to socialize...puppy play dates at your home or someone's house that you trust has had their animals vaccinated, carrying your pup out to hear traffic, motorbikes, machines, let strangers pat and cuddle...as many experiences as you can think of or google. Many people buy a puppy pram and go out for a walk with pup to hear and see the world around them. In 37 years I have lost one puppy to parvo at a puppy school and I never want that to happen again..it was one puppy too many. It is your decision to make after doing some research yourself with your vet? I will happily chat with you about this and my opinion of Dog Parks ( where over 90% of dog attacks occur) during the open weekend...just ask the question please.

We are looking forward to catching up /meeting you again on the weekend. Please try and come ontime to maximise your time with the pups. I will have the hip/elbow, eye and heart certificates of the parents here for you view. I will try and send out this week some videos that show the pups when they are active and playful. Please be understanding if you come and they are asleep... I have factored in some rest and feeding times but it is a massive two days for them. Please don't forget your robust toy!

One question I have been asked at each Open Weekend is about the temperament of a particular pup..."will it always be like this"... and the answer I give is "at almost 6 weeks nothing is set in stone... your pup will continue to grow and change physically and mentally and behaviourly...based on its life experiences and exposure to the world it will develop and learn and change... and the way I look after the pups and you treat them in your home is a major factor in the final outcome. So do some research/ reading and chat with me on the weekend about what you have read. Try and check out the link that I sent out on the phone group from K9 Training group...I have had some amazing feedback about it. There is so much knowledge out there, just find what you think you understand and can manage.

February 6th, 2023.

A big thankyou to all who came and spent time with their newest family member Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday;  for the toys that you brought along and the  respect and care you showed to the pups. We had many funny things happen as you can see from the photos. Our open weekend went for 4 days with an average of 2 hours spent with most families...thankyou all for listening to me so politely!!

Apologies to all the families who had to wear their socks into the puppy house...it seems I wrote about bringing a spare pair of socks on both of the other litter page updates but neglected to inform Bonnie's families...sorry

We said goodbye to Bonnie on Sunday as she went home to rejoin her family. Thankyou to Julie and Rod, Darcy and Harry for trusting us to look after Bonnie as she experienced being a Mum. Her 8 beautiful babies were tenderly looked after by Bonnie, and are very loved by their grandparents, who visited often and were chuffed that their little girl could produce and care for so many bundles of fluff...they were very proud!

Our pups have come in at good weights the majority just over 4 kilos and 2 pups just under 4 kilos. Happily all pups put on at least a kilo this week...if that continues for 2 weeks we would be looking at going home weights of 6 to 7 kilos. Puppies will have their 6 week worming tablet tonight with tea.

The vet is on his way to see the pups tonight for vaccination, microchip implant and health check for the 6 week Health Certificate.

I hope that you enjoy looking at this week's photos... some families have asked that their photos not be posted, as is their right. Please let me know if you would like to meet up with any of the other puppies for a play date, as I need your permission to share your phone numbers.

*** All pups have been seen tonight  by the vet . All have been vaccinated, microchipped and have passed their health check with flying colors.

February 13th, 2023

Bonnie's Puppies are seven weeks old today, and as you have seen in the videos are energetic balls of fluff.  By now everyone will have received the Diet Sheet and had a chance to read the articles on Basic Training.  Everyone will have decided where to sleep their pup in those first few cruical weeks, what time they will go to bed and what are the rules are for couches, beds and  behaviours for inside the house and outside!... Please call for a chat if you need to discuss your ideas...only too happy to share ideas.

The puppies have put on another kilo this week, with the range being from 4.83 kilos to 5.86 kilos... they are chubby and some chubbier! They are all settled on three feeds a day and enjoy the extra veggies they have received. Today they had their nails trimmed again...the best time for trimming is  about 1 hour after a meal when they are sleepy and calm.

Please remember if you decide to take your pup for a vet check to take 2 things: your information folder and a clean towel to place on the exam table. Do not let your puppy walk into the vet or touch the floor in the surgery...sick pets go to the vets and puppies can pick up sickness when they sniff, lick or stand on contamminated areas. please think carefully before booking your puppy into puppy school before the 16 week vaccination...your vet will most likey ask you 2 things: 1. about booking in to get spayed/neuterd and 2. booking you into to get an early finish  vaccination.

With regards to speying/ neutering there will be information in your Pick up Day folder that explains why it is best to delay this procedure for up to 2 years and the health benefits to your dog.

With regards to vaccinations please read this excerpt form the AVA: Australian Veterinary Association:

https://www.ava.com.au/policy-advocacy/policies/companion-animals-health/vaccination-of-dogs-and-cats/

Puppy and kitten core vaccinations are vitally important in preventing disease. Because of the variability in the level and duration of MDA among individual animals, core vaccines must be administered to puppies and kittens, from 6 to 8 weeks of age, then every 2–4 weeks with timing of the final dose being not earlier than the age of 16 weeks.2,10 Although some canine vaccines have label claims for a 10-week finish to a puppy vaccination protocol, it is still considered good practice to use a 16-week vaccination if any unacceptable environmental risks exist for the young dog.10

Please remember to have 2 cups of soaked kibble prepared, to be divided into 3 containers before you leave home. Bring an old towel with you on Pickup day and try and come as early as you can so that your pup has the whole day to spend time inside and outside of your home before  settling for the night. The count down begins!

There will be one last post next week with photos the puppies having their bath and of all the families leaving us with their newest family member. Have a wonderful week as I look forward to sleeping in and you enjoy your last sleepins for a little while.

February,23rd 2023

As promised the last photos are finally up, now that the website is back up and visible. We have said goodbye to all of Bonnie's puppies...from all accounts and seeing the wonderful photos and  videos being sent everyday, we have some very happy puppies and new families. Best wishes to you all for many years of happiness together.
