Glenyarra is very excited to announce that Honey has safely delivered her babies, on Friday, the 29th of July 2022. It was a wonderful birth with Honey just knowing what to do every step of the way...pretty amazing for a first timer! Puppies, 3 girls and 5 boys are all super weights and very strong. They are all suckling well. Honey is gentle and attentive with her babies. Please enjoy the birthing photo,  while we all recover here. Please don't forget to read the update posted each Friday, for the next 8 weeks on the puppies' progress.

Puppies go home with a pedigree certificate, vet health check certificate and proof of vaccination card, microchip and a puppy information pack that includes; worming tablet,  diet sheets, weight chart and loads of tips on raising and training a healthy and well adjusted pup.  Free PetCover Health Insurance coverage for six weeks.

August 5th   2022

Our puppies are 1 week old today. It is always amazing to see how quickly our little ones develop in the first week. The pups have doubled their weight in just a few days. Honey was demand feeding in the first few days so spent most  of her day in the whelping box tending to their appetites. Licking them constantly to bond and stimulate them to toilet which she also cleans up.  In the first few days she  was reluctant to leave them even if she needed to toilet. Now a few days along she spends short periods where she will sit outside the box or outside smelling my flowers or pinching the new puppy toys! She is a lovely, quiet and affectionate girl and loves to sit in the kitchen while tea is being prepared  in the hope  (as all goldens do) that more food is coming her way. As you can imagine Honey's food intake has increased substantially...having four meals a day with double the dry food, chicken ,mince, veggies and an egg a day.

Honey has not been left alone for a moment this week day/night...but unfortunately we cannot control everything for the best outcome...so the high we experienced with the successful birth, which was shared with Honey's family on FaceTime, was followed by the dark low of losing the biggest pup two nights later...the Blue boy.  It did take us several days to process this loss despite our very best attention to her...thankyou all for the lovely words that you shared with us.

Puppies as this age cannot see or hear but boy can they smell their Mum!  I look forward to Face Timing and Vibering you all on the weekend. It will be random as I can only call when I am not washing the whelping box and matting , cooking the food for Honey or walking outside with her to toilet...I try to ring when she is actually in with her pups feeding as it is worth seeing. If I don't get to everyone I will call in the evening next week. Please enjoy this week's photos.

August 12th 2022

Our puppies are two weeks old today and have trippled their birth weight all sitting around the 1.5 kilo mark. They are an extremely quiet and content little bunch. As you can see in the photos they are trying to take weight on their feet, although they only manage a few steps berfore they lose balance and roll over. Their eyes are now open. They still cannot hear but the sealed flap of the ear is now forming a hole ...so it won't be long before they can hear.

Puppies have had their first pedicure to make it more comfortable for Honey and also they have all been wormed for the first time today...they are growing up so quickly!

Last weekend we had a wonderful visit from Honey's family...it is always a privilege to witness the reunion of two parties who love each other so much...as you can see from the photos.

Honey is doing well and is gentle, attentive and really loving with her puppies.  She now spends more time outside of the whelping box and has moved her feeds out to 2-3 hourly. It has been lovely to be able to have a Facetime/Viber call with all of our families. I have loved watching everyone's response to the puppies, the milk letting down and the puppies'tails  going up as they respond to the increased milk flow...I have loved answering the kiddies' well thought out questions too!  I will send out videos this week of feed time and attemps to walk and how the sleeping huddle responds when Honey gets into the Whelping Box.

Please read the offer/information email and the puppy notes carefully again so you don't miss any important tips.

Enjoy the photos

August 19th 2022

Our puppies are 3 weeks old today and have again shown very pleasing weight gain with all around the 2kg mark! Honey is doing a fantastic job. As you can see from the photos they are moving around the whelping box and interacting with Mum and each other now. Their little teeth are coming through slowly. Early next week the puppies will have their first introduction to solid food. They are quite funny to watch now as they mouth each other to soothe their gums. The puppies have also become quite vocal making all sorts of squeaky noises, with the occassional tiny bark that seems to startle the barker! They still spend most of their time sleeping.

I have some lovely videos to send out again this weekend as I did last weekend. If you didn't receive your videos please contact me.

I will message everyone this weekend re their time for visiting on the Open Day, September the 10th.

Please remember to bring a very robust /strong but interesting toy to bring and leave with us... one that will absorb the smells of the siblings and puppy house... I will add a couple of photos of ones that have been popular with previous litters.

I was asked during the week for some ideas for pups to play with when they go home at 8 weeks. I have included a couple of photos that I googled... if you have any  super ideas please send them and I will share them. You will also see my set up here with climbing blocks, tunnels and hanging frame toys.

If you would like a copy of all the photos taken for the website and more, please bring a labelled USB on the open day...that I will load and then pop into your information folder for collection on Pickup Day.

Please do not purchase the dry food yet as I will need a couple of weeks to make sure that the recommended food suggested in the Care Notes is right for each puppy

I will begin to email interesting articles on Basic Commands, Socialization etc over the coming weeks for you to read. Some families choose to print them out and keep them to add into the given information folder.

Enjoy the photos!

August 26th 2022

Our puppies are 4 weeks old today. Puppies have maintained their good weight gain this week as they are all around the 3kilo mark, despite being more active and being awake more, they have held their weight gain.  It has been a busy week with the puppies being introduced to soaked dry food, once a day soon to be twice a day, as their little systems get used to food other than Mum's milk.  I hope you all enjoyed the movie that was sent out of their first meal with the assistance of Honey's family... believe me I have my work cut out for me with only 2 hands... trying to stop feet in the bowls and making sure everyone has a fair share and doesn't get pushed out, much less retrieving the ones who wander away from the bowl looking for the bowl!

The puppies have become too big for their whelping box and needed more space... so today they were moved outside to their new 'digs'... puppy house. Initally there were a few cries and whinges but it didn't take too long  before they were exploring and sniffing out those funny things we know as toys. And our very mellow Honey didn't show any anxiety (as some Mums do) she liked the toys herself and is happy to feed them and then come back inside for a sleep.  As you can see in the photos Honey is now standing to feed and moves off when the milk pressure is released ...she has started to wean her babies and I will increase their food and help her dry up slowly, ready to return home to her family after your visit at 6 weeks. All pups must be totally independant and settled on their food before they can go home to you, so we will start that journey now.

I have added 2 pictures of popular and tough toys...both have different textures and make crinkly sounds when chewed...this is just a guide for your selection... different textures and sound... not with squeakers that are dangerous if swallowed.

Enjoy this week's photos.

September 2nd 2022

Our little ones are 5 weeks old today. The pups are now on 3 feeds of soaked dry kibble a day only at this stage and Honey is feeding them twice a day, as she gradually weans them off of her. I am often asked if the mother misses her  babies?... I see that most mothers only go into feed when they are feeling tight at this stage...they stay as long as they need to feel comfrotable then after a quick check of their babies and a short play... they run for the exit to be out with the other adult goldens.

Puppy weights this week vary from 3.35 kilos to 3.79kilos, which again is very pleasing.

The puppies have settled well into their new home outside. They have changed so much in the last week. They are quite active, running and chasing each other and playing with their toys... before they fall down exhausted and sleep...sometimes where they were playing ( refer photos)

We have had our first  family visit , with 2 more  families visiting tomorrow...the pups were very confident and outgoing. Such a change from 1 week ago when they spent their time sleeping and eating in the whelping box.

Anyone looking for some reading on raising a golden might like to research 'Ian Dunbar' ...who has some great thinking points and ideas and other ideas you will not like... but well worth a read.  Videos from 'The Dog Geek'  (UTUBE) will keep all the family entertained but make important points and will lead to good discussions within the family. Remember everyone must be on the same page for training and socialization of your little one if you are going to have a well adjusted golden.  Early exposure to the world including traffic, unusal noises, plastic bags flapping on a fence, carried out in a safe way so as not to be exposed to parvo virus is important. The Golden Retriever club also has a book on raising a Golden...please  be careful about  your choice of reference eg. using some of the FB groups as gospel maybe not a good idea...

And while I am being so honest please have a good think about DOG PARKS... I would love to discuss the pros and cons of frequenting them... I was listening to a dog behaviouralist who stated that over 85% of dog attacks come from dog parks...I certainly have some stories that might support that fact. Remember achieving ' immediate recall' with your dog may save his/her life ...being respectful of others by putting your dog on lead until you check that a play together is acceptable to both parties.

Please feel free to discuss any issue with me in a phone call or on our open day.

The vet has been booked for next week for the puppies' microchipping, vaccinations and health check.

Please enjoy this week's photos of the fun times in the puppy house!

September 9th  2022

Our puppies are 6 weeks old today. Again it has been a busy week with the vet visiting and health checking the puppies. All passed their examination and were microchipped and vaccinated. The pups have also had many visitors with Honey's family and some of the new families who couldn't make this weekend's Open Day also visiting...which is always fun for the pups and me! Let's hope we have a sunny, windless day tomorrow. Please don't forget your oversocks as I cannot have shoes in the puppy house...we cannot have sick puppies. Pups are eating 3 meals of soaked dry food a day and now that they are well settled on their food and not drinking from Honey at all I will slowly try different veggies, meat and chicken in small amounts added to the kibble and see how they go. They absolutely love their food !  Weight gain this week has been great will each pup putting on at least 1kilo, with all pups between 4 and 5 kilos...they are growing fast.

Honey is doing well and will leave us next week to return to her loved ones. A big thankyou to Carolyn, Stuart, Victoria and Lucas for trusting us to look after Honey.  We have loved her and she has been a beautiful mum to her babies.  It has been wonderful to share your visits with her and there are many families who will love and cherish a golden baby because of your generosity and desire to see Honey find fulfillment in becoming a Mum, as nature intended.

Despite this week's weather the puppies have had fun in their puppy house ...hopefully next week we can have some outside time on the grass. I hope that you have enjoyed the vidoes of their antics. Buying a tunnel from Big W or Reject shop is a wonderful idea and provides loads of enjoyment. Please do not purchase a collar that is too heavy or stiff... adjustable soft clip collars are available from the reject shop until the pups have grown.

Next week I will start to email articles out for you to read covering many topics related to the best care of your little one. Please remember I am always available to discuss your ideas on the articles sent.

Enjoy this week's photos

September 16th   2022

Our puppies are 7 weeks old today. Puppies are now well settled on the Royal Canin soaked dry food eating about 1and half to 2 cups of food at each meal. They have been introduced to small amounts of pumpkin, carrot and broccolli with no adverse reactions. It is ok to just give the soaked dry food as it contains everything they need. As a breeder I just like to extend  their exposure to foods. We will continue over the next week to try cooked mince and cooked chicken. Puppy weights are very good with the range from 5.4 kilos to 6.20 kilos... all pups putting on a kilo again this week.

Honey has left us this week and has settled in well at home with her family. We miss her soft and affectionate presence.

Only one week before pick up day and there are a couple of last minute tips: please remember to bring an old towel to put on your lap as you take your pup home in the car to catch any vomits from motion sickness... they have never been in a car before. This does not mean that  they will hate the car forever. It is a good idea to take them often for a short rides to get them used to it. It is also a good idea to do this on an empty tummy. If you are coming alone for pickup you will need to buy or hire a pet container to ensure that your pup is not at risk of falling/climbing on the way home. This will also mean that you are free to concentrate on safe driving with eyes on the road and not the pup!

Please have your lunch and tea meals for Day 1 ready by presoaking the kibble, it takes a couple of hours to soak... just start off with the kibble for a few of days and start with the cooked veggies/meat once they have settled in. I will email a suggested diet sheet  mid next week and there will also be a copy in your folder giving you an idea of times to feed and suggested quantities for veggies and cooked meat.

Everyone has arranged to come early on pickup day. Pease go straight home DO NOT stop to let your pup toilet in a park or on the side of the road...this is exposing your pup to parvo from native animals and other viruses. If you are driving for many hours please bring some news paper and let the pup run around in the boot or back of your SUV. Most people don't stop and don't have any accidents.

When you get home introduce your pup to another dog INSIDE the house where you are able to watch and control behaviours. Remember to gently curb the puppy's exuberance by sitting him/her on your lap or on the floor with a little finger hooked through the collar to stop any unexpected lunging at the older dog until they have settled in.

Please use your laundry/crate to sleep pup for the first few weeks... it is very difficult if you let pup sleep in your room/bed and then decide that it's not working for you to have a good night's sleep... easier to start off in the laundry and change things later. I  personally would not separate the pup and older dog at night  if they are tolerating each other on Day 1... the pup will settle beautifully if they have company. Remember to put your pup to bed well before you go to bed toilet outside before bed ... do not go back in and don't check on them if they are quiet! It is normal for the pups to make a noise overnight...they may be playing with toys or are trying to get out to the toilet. It is your choice to get up and take them outside... but they may not want to settle back down... ready for a play! It is only a short time before their bladders are able to hold on overnight.

Please reread your puppy care notes for a refresher and the email sent this week containing articles about Basic Commands, Object Guarding, Biting and Desexing etc.

I cannot believe that this will be my last update before the puppies leave us next week. Although, I will post a Leaving Day post a few days  later after I have spoken with everyone (usually with in 48 hours) and will post any helpful tips that arise and some photos of leaving day.  As I look through all of the posted photos I cannot believe that this journey with Honey and her babies is coming to an end for us...it has been so enjoyable.

ALERT:

Just today, I have been informed that there has been a large outbreak of Kennel Cough.  And on the weekend  the event called .'Gold Rush' where over 1000 goldies got together may be a super spreader opportunity for the virus Please be careful if you have a dog at home and be on the watch for the symptoms ( google) The puppies have only had an injection of C3 at this stage so I recomend getting the C5 at the next  vaccination. Perhaps some precautions with your big dog at home in not mixing with other dogs at the Dog park or on the street as a sneeze or cough by an infected dog could result in transference of the virus. Ask your vet about  Nasal Vaccines...something new but on all accounts very effective.

September 25th 2022

Eight weeks old last Friday, all our puppies have now left us to go to their new homes. Looking at the photos it has been another amazing journey watching our little ones grow up so healthy and start to develop their little characters. Having so many families come back to us and meeting the new families has been very enjoyable and we look forward to hearing all those  funny and quirky puppy stories and seeing all your photos. You all know where we live now so do no drive past without popping in!
