It has been a busy night/day for us, after an amazing birth with little sleep and much to clean up, wash and dry after such a memorable experience... with a few more nights of watching over our newbies and Mum to come. Please be patient I will try and ring those of you on the wait list over the weekend. In the meantime enjoy the birthing photos...it really was something special.
The parents of each litter have been hip/elbow scored, have clear eye certificates and a healthy heart certificate, all available for you to view.
Puppies go home with a pedigree certificate, vet health check and proof of vaccination card, a microchip and a puppy information pack that includes; food, diet sheets, weight chart and loads of tips on raising and training a healthy and well adjusted pup. Free Petplan Health Insurance coverage for six weeks.
Our puppies are 1 week old today and we have almost all recovered from the birth of 10 puppies...Yarra is actually doing really well, she spends most of day and night feeding her puppies round the clock. Females are those wearing RED PINK and PURPLE...the rest are boys. Yarra is staying in our lounge room going outside to toilet on a regular basis and to have a little exercise. She has her meals served to her and is enjoying lots of high calcium foods such as eggs, chicken and rice, sardines mince and cooked veggies on top of her increased kibble quantity. Yarra and the puppies are in a heated whelping box with a heater close by if needed. So this means I have many meals to prepare for her. I am always close by to assist with the feeds day and night... making sure each little pup is attached and drinking well. And the results are very good. All puppies have shown fabulous weight gain almost doubling their birth weight in just seven days... amazing for such a big litter.
Yarra has taken beautifully to her babies ...she is amazingly attentive and just seems to know how to clean etc even though this is her first litter
Please enjoy today's photos of our first week together...can you see that the pink noses and paw pads which were pink when born are now black? Can you pick which photos were taken earlier in the week? Puppies ears and eyes are closed over at the moment but their voices work well as they all squeak loudly in frustration when Yarra's milk takes a while to 'let down' and flow quickly... followed
We welcome all our new families and will do Face Time/Messenger calls when we find time later later in this week.
Our puppies are 2 weeks old today. It has been really lovely to meet all the new families in our Face Time calls and meet your partners, children and pets. Yarra's puppies have shown good weight gain...weight range is between 1.4 kilos and 934 grams, being our little red collared girl... who has tripled her birth weight. Yarra is doing an amazing job of attending to her babies... she is placid, gentle and attentive with her babies and they seem very contented...we do not hear a sound from them except when Yarra gets in to clean up and to feed them. As I explained in the video calls the puppies could not see or hear when born but use their sense of smell to track down Mum and have a drink. At this stage they drink and sleep peacefully until the next feed. The puppies' eyes have now started to open although vision is blurring for them at this stage. There are signs of opening in their ear canals so it won't be long before they wake up and scurry around while I am vaccuuming around the whelping box.
Thankyou all for sending through your addresses as I spend this quieter time getting a start on the paperwork for Dog's Vic and Central Records. I hope you all enjoy the photos of our little ones over the last week
Our puppies are 3 weeks old today. It has been a good week with the puppies' eyes and ears fully opening... they interact with each now they can see each other and respond to the vaccuum especially and other noises in the house... which they will get used too! They have also started to make many noises of their own including squeaky little barks. Their teeth are just about through and they mouth each other in their play to soothe their gums. Yarra is coping well with the increase in their appetites. She feeds them about every 3 to 4 hours. Yarra stays longer in the whelping box, cleaning each pup after a feed and seems to enjoy just watching and laying with them... so lovely to watch this.
Weight Range this week is 1.84 kilos to 1.3 kilos which is Baby Red...who looks really good and has a personality! She heads to the back lower teat evertime away from the pushing of the bigger pups and this teat usually has more milk...SMART!!
I will start to organize the times for our Open Weekend shortly: Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th of August when the pups are 6 weeks old and have been health checked by the Vet... and issued their Dog's Victoria Heath Certificates
I think this week's photos really reflect the amazing progress of our puppies that seem to change everyday! Enjoy.
Our puppies are 4 weeks old today. Yarra is doing a wonderful job of feeding her puppies but as they grow their demand for more milk places an ever growing load on her. So yesterday we introduced the puppies to food...a soft, mushy mixture of soaked and mashed up dry food with some lactose free milk and extra boiled water. At first they were unsure of how to tackle it but today they dived in and learned to eat as opposed to sucking. They are growing well and I can see changes everyday as they turn into little doggies. Four of the pups are over 2 kilos and the rest are between 1.8 and 1.9 kilos with our little red collared girl at 1.61 kilos.
As you have seen from the videos they play with each other and move freely around the box...they are quick. Yarra gets in and doesn't even have time to lay down before they are all hooked on and she feeds them standing up...I hold up the little red girl as it is a bit of a stretch for her!
The puppies had lots of socialising this week when we had another visit from Yarra's family and our family friends...Children and adults alike all enjoyed cuddles...wonderful for the pups to experience being cuddled and hearing different sounds and sniffing different smells.
The puppies have been microchipped and the vet was quite happy with their progress. I will now complete the Dog's Victoria Litter Registration Form. Dog's Victoria will then issue their Pedigree Paper and choose their Pedigree name from the 18 names I must submit. I think because Yarra's name is River based, I will continue this theme by using Victorian waterway names
The puppies will have another worming tablet later today and another pedicure. I think it will be time to move the puppies outside in the next couple of days...as much as I don't want to see my last litter after 39 years leave the house... it is time for them to have a little more room to exercise and play in.
Our Open Day times have been organised for the 16th and 17th of August... it will be a busy weekend for the pups.
Bonnie's pups leave us this weekend, so I hope to increase the videos that I send out in the coming weeks. Thankyou for the positive comments that have come my way this week...it is lovely to know that you are enjoying the journey of Yarra's babies.
Our puppies are 5 weeks old today and growing quickly. Weight gains are good with all puppies just under or slighlty over 3 kilos except for our red collared girl who is 2.21 kilos but, definitely holds her own with the bigger puppies and loves to have a cuddle! The puppies are now eating 3 small meals of Black Hawk Lamb and Rice Puppy :Large Breed. We will start to introduce veggies in the next few days, one at a time. Yarra is still feeding her pups during the day but is not feeding them overnight as we gradually start the weaning process. Yarra has definitely enjoyed returning to play longer with our other girls. It has been a huge demand on her with so many puppies and she has done exceptionally well.
Our little ones moved from our house and whelping box to the outside puppy house and as you have seen in the videos they are loving it .They have a large area to run and play with each other with toys, chew ropes and some new tunnels ( after our last litter destroyed them! ). They are well protected from the elements.
The registration form has been sent off to Dog's Victoria for processing...so hopefully we will receive the Pedigree Papers before the puppies leave us. The vet is booked in for next Wednesday to vaccinate and do a full health check and write Health Certificates before our Open Days on the 16th and 17th of August. Time to go shopping for that robust toy to leave with us until Pickup Day... some children might like to sleep with the toy so that the toy has smells from the family... early bonding for everyone!
Open Day: more about this next week but I just thought I would mention that is really important to try and arrive as close to your time as possible...there is a lot to get through in the hour allocated. My last open day became very difficult when one family arrived late and the next early...it was an extremely windy day...gale force and some had to stand in the elements for quite some time, as I moved between the two...not as fun as it could of been for everyone!
I hope you enjoy this week's photos with the individual pictures of puppies... coats are getting thicker and longer with golden highlights and faces are beginning to resemble golden retrievers!!
Just are reminder that Females are PINK, RED and PURPLE collared puppies ...the rest are Males!
Our puppies are 6 weeks old today. They are very gorgeous, soft coated and playful. They have all grown a kilo from last week's weights ...most about 4kilos and our red collared female just over 3 kilos. Yarra is no longer feeding them at all and they are well settled on three meals of the Black Hawk Lamb and Rice: Large breed. We have stared to add vegetables too. Yarra will be here to meet you all on the weekend but will return home to her mate Ander and her wonderful owners who are missing her at home. Thankyou Bernie and Helen for trusting us with Yarra, she has been a pleasure to have with us and a wonderfully caring and attentive mother. She is a beautiful and well raised golden girl, who really embodies those special Golden Retriever Traits.
OPEN DAY: is this weekend and it will be a very busy one for puppies and their new families. Please re-read the Sales Agreement that was attached to the Letter of Offer email sent to you all at the beginning of this journey, back in early July. You will be asked to sign that agreement this weekend. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call me. This agreement will be in your information folder on Pickup Day , August 27th. Once you have choosen your puppy you will also be asked to fill out the Microchip Form ...this will then be processed by Central Records and is your proof of ownership. This form will also be in your information folder on Pickup Day. Please re read the puppy notes previously emailed and write down any questions that you may have so I can answer them on the weekend.
A diet sheet will be sent out in the coming week detailing exactly what the puppies have been eating and feeding times... another copy will be included in the information folder.
Have a think about where your puppy will be sleeping for those first few weeks and we will discuss how to ensure that your puppy settles seemlessly into your family routines.
Please remember those spare oversocks so that you can enter the puppy house without shoes or bare feet and interact with them in their home. I will ask each person to use hand sanitiser and it goes without saying that if you are unwell please call and we can arrange a video call for you. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is not a good one so please bring a coat, hat and umberalla. We live on top of a hill and the winds can be fericious!
I hope you have had fun finding and sleeping with a robust toy to leave with us until Pickup Day
Please try to be close to your allocated time so as not to affect another family's quality of time with the pups.
We look forward to renewing relationships with previous families and meeting our new families.
Our vet is coming this afternoon to vaccinate our babies and give each one a health certificate after a thorough examination...I will post this week's photos today but may be interrupted by his visit, so they may be a little late!
Seven weeks old today, our little ones have grown well this last week: our little red collared girl, now called Pippa has hit four kilos...we are delighted. Four of the pups are over 5 kilos and the other four are over 4.6 kilos. The puppies have been vaccinated and all received their Health Certificates from the vet.
Open Day: It was wonderful weekend spent playing with puppies and watching everyone start to bond with their new familiy member. The most common question was where to sleep the pup in the first few days of settling in. Please have a good think about what was suggested with the crate/laundry. If you are still unsure I am always happy to go through it again. Please reread those puppy notes as they have been based upon the questions from many families over many years. Thankyou for the wonderful toys that were brought along. In my next email there is a section on toys for puppies and how dangerous they can be if pups get to the stuffing or the squeaker inside. A couple of toys arrived that are only given to the pups while I am present. Remember to have those Lectric Soda crystals on hand!
A diet sheet has been emailed out. Please follow this diet as closley as you are able so your pup won't experience diarrhoea...With the cold mornings I have introduced a small amout of pasta to breakfast with their soaked kibble and weetbix and they seem to like it. As a Breeder, I try little amouts of a lot of things to see if there are any adverse reactions or allergies. The Lactose free milk has been substituted with boiled water (only because we are on tank water)
Please ring any time if you have questions before Pickup Day on the 27th August
Enjoy this week's photos.
